TOOLS PALETTE, con't...

- HISTORY BRUSH -
This tool paints a copy of the selected state or snapshot into the current image window. Sounds confusing. We will get to it later on. 11- ERASER TOOL - This tool is handy for erasing mistakes, or for erasing part of an image, such as with a normal eraser. You can adjust exactly what color you want erased, such as color of the background, by changing the selected colors. Beneath the eraser tool is the MAGIC ERASER. By clicking this tool and then clicking the background of an image you can transform the image and make the background transparent. This comes in handy when you want to use transparent GIFs on a web page with a colored background other than white. NOTE: the tool displayed in the screen shot shows the MAGIC ERASER tool. 12 - FILL BUCKET - This next tool is what you will use to fill color into a selected space. Whether it be the background or a shape, clicking the FILL BUCKET and then applying it to your image will fill that "layer", or that part of the image, with the chosen color. 13 - BLUR TOOL - This is a handy tool for blurring part of an image you'd like to "blend" into another one. You have to be careful when using this tool, and choose an appropriate "size". Otherwise, you may end up with an image that is totally blurred and unusable, taking you right back to square one. Using the ALT key while selecting the BLUR TOOL reveals other tools underneath. There you'll find the SHARPEN TOOL for sharpening an image, and the SMUDGE TOOL for smudging painted sections or part of the image itself. Experimenting with each tool and what it does is the best way to learn. 14 - DODGE, BURN, SPONGE TOOLS - Although these tools are all found bundled together, each achieves a totally different effect. DODGE - lightens color in an image. BURN - darkens color in an image. SPONGE - changes color saturation, or washes-out, an image.

15 - PATH COMPONENT, DIRECT SELECTION TOOLS - These tools all make shape or segment selections, showing anchor points, direction lines, and direction points. 16 - TEXT/TYPE TOOL - This is one tool you can't live without, and will use all the time, especially when creating graphic/web signatures. It is also one of the easiest tools to use. Simply select the tool and click on the image. This opens up the text options on the main toolbar above. There you can choose what fonts you want to use, font color and size, and what effect, if any, you want; such as arching text, etc. There are tons of other special effects you can give text, such as drop shadows, beveling or embossing. All these can be found by clicking on the LAYER button on the main toolbar. When the menu scrolls out, choose LAYER STYLE. This opens another window containing all the different effects and their adjustments. PROGRAM NOTE: If you're not happy with what you've done or the changes you've made, simply click EDIT, UNDO on the main toolbar. You can then click STEP BACKWARD to undo even more changes. |
